It is expected that throughout each stage of career, faculty will continue to develop their teaching skills and their research skills. In the middle and later stages of career, faculty will develop and expand their leadership skills. In mid-career, post-tenure or the first promotion, faculty will be given the opportunity for more leadership. Faculty should consider ways to be strategic in accepting leadership positions, participate in leadership development opportunities, and explore avenues to expand their sphere of influence. For some faculty, accepting a journal editorship position may be crucial; for others the supervision of more doctoral students by better align with their career goals. Additionally, this is the time to investigate ways to use a sabbatical to support your long-term career trajectory.
