I am trained as both a chemical engineer and microbial synthetic biologist. I am interested in implementing an interdisciplinary approach combining computational and experimental methods for solving various engineering problems such as antibiotic resistance.
My scholarship involves characterizing the challenges science teachers face in enacting reform-minded instruction, strategies to reduce those challenges, and ways teacher identity can be utilized as an opportunity for learning.
My research focuses on emotional regulation strategies to enhance emotional well-being and academic success.
As the Director of Student Teaching & Internship Experiences, my role is to collaborate with our programs to ensure the quality of practicum and internship placements for our future educators. These experiences provide students with hands-on experience, fostering professional confidence and preparing them to meet licensure requirements and excel in their future careers. Under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers across the state of Florida, these placements play a crucial role in developing the competencies and confidence necessary for success in today’s classrooms.
I enjoy opportunities to mentor and support our pre-service teachers that are afforded diverse field placements throughout Leon County.

My research focuses on optimizing human performance and metabolic health through innovative approaches in complex metabolic diseases and elite performers. Leveraging nutrition and lifestyle interventions, my work focuses on enhancing cardiometabolic outcomes and quality of life in individuals living with complex metabolic diseases, particularly Type 1 diabetes, as well as advancing performance and resilience among elite athletes and specialized populations operating in extreme environments.
My research program aims to integrate multiple disciplines including nutrition, food, agricultural, and biomedical sciences to perform translational research studies. Populations of interest including aging individuals (middle-aged/older) and, particularly, peri and postmenopausal women, as the physiological changes that occur throughout the menopausal transition and postmenopausal period accelerate the development and progression chronic diseases and conditions, particularly vascular dysfunction and cardiovascular disease.
My research interests span across the fields of learning sciences, instructional systems and learning technologies, and information science. My current focus is on AI in education, informal STEM learning, libraries as learning spaces, problem-solving, makerspaces, and educational affordances of emerging technologies.
My research interests surround the impact of criminal justice system involvement on later life outcomes with a particular focus on juvenile justice, sentencing, disparities and the collateral consequences of a criminal record on employment and education.
