I am a scholar of the early American republic, specializing in political culture, gender, and partisan development at the turn of the 19th century. More specifically, my work focuses on how elite women used sociability to influence and facilitate the uneven evolution of the two-party system in the United States. 

My primary research interests lie in ocean circulation dynamics and their role in polar climate variability and change. My current work explores the global impacts of glacial melt, ocean–atmosphere–ice interactions in the polar regions, and tropical-to-polar teleconnections, using observational data, ocean state estimates, and state-of-the-art ocean and climate models.

My research focuses on the spin dynamics of photoexcited molecules and their application in quantum information science. The Mao group will develop molecular qubits and quantum sensors by combining synthetic design with time-resolved spectroscopy and magnetic resonance techniques.

I would like to teach students lab skills in analytical and physical chemistry.

My research focuses on the neurocognitive and neurobiological basis of reading and executive function. My expertise is in structural neuroimaging and neuromodulation techniques. 

I am interested in the materiality of reading and how medium affects the cognitive and emotional process of reading and learning.

My research interests focus on developing artificial intelligence and digitization methods to optimize manufacturing systems that prioritize human-centric design and promote robotics learning.
