Michael Shatruk receives ACS ExxonMobil Award

Michael Shatruk, assistant professor of Chemistry, has been chosen to receive the American Chemical Society's 2012 ExxonMobil Award in Solid State Chemistry. This award "recognizes young scientists who have made substantial contributions to the discipline of solid-state chemistry and have the potential to emerge as leaders in the field."

Trip Wyckoff receives Florida Library Association Exemplary Learning Design Award

Trip Wyckoff, Associate Librarian and Business Subject Specialist, has been selected to receive the Florida Library Association Exemplary Learning Design Award. This award "recognizes good practice of sound design and implementation of products and services for learning in libraries, including classes written and taught by library staff, structured tutorial programs coordinated by libraries, online tutorials or programs, or paper-based fact finders." 

Gloria Colvin awarded inaugural Fred L. Standley Award

Gloria Colvin, Research Librarian at Strozier Library, has been awarded the first annual Fred L. Standley Award by the Friends of FSU Libraries Awards Committee. This award is given to recognize FSU's Academic Librarian of the Year. The criteria for this award is as follows:

Individuals nominated must demonstrate achievements in areas such as:

  1. Planning and implementing a campus library program of exemplary quality.
  2. Superior service to students and faculty on and off the campus.
  3. Service to local, state, national, and international library organizations.
  4. Significant research and publications.
  5. Mentoring of students, faculty, library staff, and library professionals.

Kathleen Blake Yancey receives Purdue's 2012 Distinguished Women Scholars

Kathleen Blake Yancey, Kellog W. Hunt Professor of English, has been chosen as a 2012 recipient of Purdue's Distinguished Women Scholars award. According to Professor Kristie S. Fleckenstein, this award is designed to honor alumnae who have earned a Purdue doctorate and have made significant scholarly contributions to their respective disciplines.  Kathleen is the first awardee from Purdue's College of Liberal Arts.  

Dean Falk's book named one of best books of 2011

Science Books & Films: Your Online Review Guide to Science Resources for All Ages has named The Fossil Chronicles: How Two Controversial Discoveries Changed Our View of Human Evolution as one of the best books of 2011. Dean Falk is the Hale G. Smith Professor of Anthropology and is currently working as a Senior Scholar at the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Science Books & Films is a publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Penny Ralston receives BoHS Lifetime Achievement Award

Penny Ralston, Professor and Dean Emeritus and Director of the Center on Better Health and Life for Underserved Populations, received the Board on Human Sciences 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Board’s meeting in November. She was honored as a national leader who has a significant history of promoting and advancing the human sciences in higher education.

Randolph Clarke awarded NEH Fellowship

Chad Van Iddekinge elected as a SIOP Fellow

Chad Van Iddekinge, associate professor of Management, has been elected as a Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychologist (SIOP) Fellow. According to the press release, "Fellow status is an honor bestowed upon SIOP Members (and international affiliates) who have shown evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in I-O psychology, through research, practice, teaching, administration and/or professional service."
