Adjunct/Visiting in Lieu of Adjunct

 

Adjunct Appointment

  • Always 4-Month type.
  • Manual contract must be prepared for all OPS Adjunct employees (4-month contracts). Employment Contracts for Faculty are now available on the Office of Human Resources website under the Forms section.
  • Temporary appointment of persons with satisfactory professional qualifications who perform temporary teaching of UNDERGRADUATE COURSES ONLY, research, or extension functions in connection with established programs.
  • Compensated on a per course basis and paid from OPS funds.
  • May be employed no more than 50% FTE throughout a year – Fall semester through Summer semester (or full time no more than 26 weeks of the full year).
  • Appointments must be done for one semester at a time. Beginning and ending dates are not allowed to cross over from one semester to another. A separate ePAF must be completed for each semester re-appointed.
  • The course prefix, number and credit hours must be indicated in the “COMMENTS” section of the pPAF and ePAF for any course an adjunct is teaching.
  • Adjuncts are not permitted to teach graduate level courses.

Visiting in Lieu of Adjuncts

(follow the same guidelines as the Adjunct Appointments)

  • Always 9-month type.
  • Temporary appointments of persons with satisfactory professional qualifications who perform temporary teaching of GRADUATE COURSES ONLY (or combination of Graduate/Undergraduate) in connection with established programs.
  • Compensated on a per course basis and paid from OPS funds.
  • May be employed no more than 50% FTE throughout a year – Fall semester through Summer semester (or full time no more than 26 weeks of the full year).
  • Appointments must be done for one semester at a time. Beginning and ending dates are not allowed to cross over from one semester to another. A separate ePAF must be completed for each semester re-appointed.
