Janet Kistner
Janet Kistner currently serves as Vice President for Faculty Development and Advancement. In this role, she is responsible for supporting faculty development throughout the University including promotion and tenure reviews. Previously, she served for three years as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Her major administrative responsibilities as Associate Vice President involved interdisciplinary hiring initiatives, development of academic programs and activities to enhance students' career readiness, and preparation of the university's annual accountability and work plan reports. She also served for ten years as Chair of the Department of Psychology. She was elected to the Executive Board of the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology and has served on numerous university committees including the Athletic, Strategic Planning, Quality Enhancement Plan, and Deans and Chairs Education Committees.
Dr. Kistner earned a B.S. from Douglass College of Rutgers University and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the State University of New York at Binghamton. Prior to joining the faculty at FSU, she was Assistant Director of the Children's Unit for Treatment and Evaluation, an outpatient treatment facility in New York.
Dr. Kistner is a widely published scholar in the field of child clinical psychology. Her research focuses on children's responses to stress and failure and childhood risk factors for development of psychopathology. She served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, a leading scientific journal in her field. Dr. Kistner has directed over 25 doctoral dissertations and 30 theses. A strong advocate for undergraduate research opportunities, she has involved more than 100 undergraduate students in supervised research projects since joining the faculty.
