The Louis S. Tregre Award is one of the interior design world’s most distinguished honors, and this year it has gone to Florida State University Professor David M. Butler, who for more than three decades as a licensed interior designer and as a faculty member in FSU’s interior design program has exemplified and promoted his field’s highest standards.

The Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired presented Dr. Sandra Lewis of Florida State University with the Mary K. Bauman Award, the association’s highest honor in education, on July 23, 2010, during the association’s international conference in Little Rock, Ark.

Jill Quadagno has been elected as one of 65 new members of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

Talbot “Sandy” D’Alemberte has been selected to receive the American Bar Association Founders' Award for his numerous contributions, including the creation of the Central and Eastern European Law Initiative (ABA CEELI). He will receive this award together with Homer E. Moyer, Jr. at the 20th anniversary celebration and awards ceremony on October 14. The Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society has selected Vice President Kirby Kemper to receive its 2010 Francis G. Slack Award, given for “excellence in service to physics in the Southeast.”

The South Atlantic Modern Language Association (SAMLA) has awarded Eric Walker the 2010 Book Award for his book, Marriage, Writing, and Romanticism: Wordsworth and Austen After War. This award is presented at the annual convention to an author of an outstanding scholarly book published during the previous calendar year.
