Betsy Becker receives the Mosteller Award

Betsy Becker, Mode L. Stone Distinguished Professor of Educational Statistics, has received the Frederick Mosteller Award presented by the Campbell Collaboration for "distinctive contributions to systematic reviewing". According to the committee, "The award reflects her contribution to both the practice of research synthesis and its methodology. She is well known for generously sharing her expertise with students who continue to push the field to provide high-quality evidence for decision-making in education, social welfare and crime and justice."

Alan Marshall receives the William H. Nichols Medal

Alan G. Marshall, Robert O. Lawton Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, will receive the New York Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) 2012 William H. Nichols Medal. He has also been awarded the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) 2012 Pittsburgh Analytical Chemistry Award.

Unity in Diversity — An Academic Community Reflects on the Three Cultures: The Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences

The theme of the upcoming fall series was inspired by a 1959 lecture by scholar C.P. Snow that explored the cultural divide between the natural sciences and the humanities, as well as a 2009 book by Harvard psychologist Jerome Kagan, “The Three Cultures: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and the Humanities in the 21st Century.”

Elaine Treharne named fellow of the Royal Historical Society

Elaine Treharne of the Department of English has been elected a fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a scholarly organization chartered by Britain’s Queen Victoria in 1868. According to the society's website, those elected to the rank of fellow must have made “an original contribution to historical scholarship in the form of significant published work.”

Roy Baumeister receives the Jack Block Award

Roy Baumeister, Francis Eppes Professor, Social Psychology, has received the Jack Block Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.This lifetime achievement award is given for distinguished contributions in personality psychology.

Dean Joseph Travis awarded E. O. Wilson Naturalist Award

Joseph Travis, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, has been awarded the 2011 Edward O. Wilson Naturalist Award presented by the American Society of Naturalists (ASN). This award is presented "in recognition of the lifetime of outstanding contributions of Professor E. O. Wilson in the areas of ecology and evolutionary biology, including the study of social insects, biodiversity, and biophilia. It is given to an active investigator in mid-career who has made significant contributions to the knowledge of a particular ecosystem or group of organisms."

Marcia Rosal named Honorary Life Member by AATA

Marcia Rosal, professor of Art Therapy, has been named an Honorary Life Member of the American Art Therapy Association, which is its highest honor. She will be presented this award at the AATA conference this July in Washington, D.C. Prior to this honor, Dr. Rosal has also received numerous other awards, including an appointment as a Fulbright Scholar in 2008-2009, which allowed her to conduct research in Taiwan.

Dean of the Faculties CV Database Training

Starting June 9, the Office of Faculty Recognition will be offering DOF CV Database training every other Thursday from 3:30 – 4:30 at the university Training Center on Stadium Drive. This training session will provide faculty members and delegates hands-on experience with the DOF CV Database system and allow ample time for specific questions to be answered.
