Bryan J. Cuevas awarded NEH Fellowship

Bryan J. Cuevas, John F. Priest Professor of Religion, has been awarded an NEH Fellowship. According to Cuevas, "The NEH Fellowship is allowing me to complete the first complete translation of the biography of Ra Lotsawa (b. 1016), one of Tibet’s most controversial Buddhist saints. Ra Lotsawa is the paradigmatic sinister yogin, a Tibetan Buddhist antihero and wonder-worker, who deployed his magical abilities to defeat his competitors and to gain abundant riches, worldly power, and spiritual influence. His life story, The All-Pervading Melodious Drumbeat, was compiled in the 12th century and is one of the longest surviving hagiographical narratives of the Buddhist yogi-saints of Tibet."
