Denise Von Glahn wins Pauline Alderman Award

Denise Von Glahn, Curtis Mayes Orpheus Professor of Musicology, has received the 2015 Pauline Alderman Award from the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) for her book, Music and the Skillful Listener:  American Women Compose the Natural World. This award is presented biennially for the best work in the categories of Book, Article, and Reference work.

According to the APS website, "Fellow status is awarded to APS Members who have made sustained outstanding contributions to the science of psychology in the areas of research, teaching, service, and/or application."

Laura Lee awarded AAS NEAC Japan Studies Grant

Laura Lee, assistant professor in Modern Languages, has been awarded an Association for Asian Studies (AAS) NEAC Japan Studies Grant. According to the AAS website, this grant program is "designed to facilitate the research of individual scholars, to improve the quality of teaching about Japan on both the college and precollege levels, and to integrate the study of Japan into the major academic disciplines in the United States." These activities are financially assisted by the Japan-United States Friendship Commission and the Northeast Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies.

Lynn Jones receives CASVA Senior Fellowship

Lynn Jones, associate professor of Art History, has received a Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowship at the Center for Advanced Study of the Visual Arts (CASVA).

According to the CASVA website, "Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowships are intended to support research in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts (painting, sculpture, architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, prints and drawings, film, photography, decorative arts, industrial design, and other arts) of any geographical area and of any period. Visiting senior fellowship applications are also solicited from scholars in other disciplines whose work examines artifacts or has implications for the analysis and criticism of visual form."

Will Hanley receives DAAD Research Visit award

Will Hanley, assistant professor of History, has received a DAAD Research Visit award. According to Dr. Hanley, he will be traveling "to the Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Kultur in Leipzig this fall, working on ontology design for semantic historical databases with Prof. Thomas Riechert."
