Julianna Baggott wins Alex Award

Julianna Baggott, associate professor of English, has won an American Library Association Alex Award for her book Pure. According to the ALA website, "The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18."

Robert A. Reiser receives Outstanding Book Award

Robert A. Reiser, Robert M. Morgan Professor of Instructional Systems, has received the Association for Education Communication and Technology's Division of Design and Development 2012 Outstanding Book Award. Co-authored with John V. Dempsey of the University of South Alabama, the work is titled, Trends and Issues in Instructional Design and Technology (3rd Ed.).

Lonnie Johnson visits FSU

Dr. Lonnie Johnson, Executive Director of the Austrian-American Educational Commission at Fulbright, will be visiting Florida State University from Sunday, March 24, 2013 through Monday, March 25, 2013. He will be meeting with both students and faculty during the day as well as giving a presentation in the evening. The presentation, titled “Old Europe and New Europe: Looking back at 1989," will take place at 8:00 p.m. at the Alumni Center.

Dr. Johnson was recently awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art First Class, "for deepening ties between Austria and the United States."

FSU Panama City has gained its first U.S. Patent for the "Diver's Station and Umbilical Cart." Attached is a PDF document which contains the cover page of the patent. The development team was lead by Dr. Michael Zinszer, Director of the Advanced Scientific Diving Program.

Yi Zhou, assistant professor of Finance, has received the American Association of Individual Investors outstanding paper award in asset pricing research for her paper titled, "Understanding the Term Structure of Credit Default Swap Spreads".
