Academic Personnel Rules
The Office of Faculty Development and Advancement is responsible for administering all personnel rules regarding faculty positions, wherever they may reside.
All changes in faculty positions and in the status of individuals holding faculty positions must be reviewed and approved by the Provost before Human Resources can process such changes.
Requests for approval for the three categories of action listed below with a memorandum giving a detailed justification for each action should be forwarded to the Office of Faculty Development and Advancement so that approval may be sought from the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
- Any faculty personnel action involving changes from other funding sources to E&G and vice versa. Deans may, at their discretion, allow regular ranked non-administrative faculty to be appointed on grants and contracts during the academic year, provided that the total salary funds replaced by C&G appointments not exceed 10% of the salary budgets of their respective schools or colleges. Deans are responsible for funding any affected faculty salaries from their E&G school or college funds in the event that funding for a grant or contract is terminated unexpectedly. Split funded appointments totaling more than 10% of the dean's salary budget require a memorandum of justification sent to the Vice President for Faculty Development and Advancement so that approval may be sought from the Provost.
- Proposed changes in faculty rate. Requests for mid-year raises are regarded as rare. Such requests must be carefully justified. Each request requires a memorandum of justification sent to the Office of Faculty Development and Advancement for approval by the Provost.
- Proposed payplan conversions from A&P or USPS to Faculty and vice versa. Conversions between payplans must be carefully considered. Reversals of such conversions will not be approved until two years have elapsed since the first conversion. Send memorandum of justification to the Office of Faculty Development and Advancement for approval by the Provost.
